THE JOURNEY

The art installation, The Journey, explores the nature of perception through personal experience.  Using natural materials like paper, salt, dirt, and natural pigment, to outline the traces of my personal journey into the exploration of nature; also I am looking to connect with the viewer’s own personal journey and involve them in their own memory.

The exploration into the world sign our imprint on the earth signs itself forever into an absolute experience of connection with nature and the whole systems.  What remains are the traces of the journey, the elements, the sounds, the smell, the colors….

I used natural papers to remind the viewer of nature: 

-- A personal photograph taken during an exploration while filming in the desert; salt, is an essential element for our existence; and dirt from canyons. 

-- Mirrors as introspective engagement with itself and others -- as others can see themselves in their own personal journey:  “I see in others, what I can’t see in myself”

-- White painted shoes, step on the mirrors to communicate this experience during the imprinting of their own traces.  I used my shoes and shoes from others, an undressing of identity.  Steps, with purity, step into the world.

Using these materials as a metaphor, to think about where we are going, what we are doing.  Mirrors is not only to look at our selves, but by looking into it -- the act of seeing -- and by doing at the same time in the world, is to see our selves in our surroundings. 

The sounds of steps embrace the entire installation to create a connection, an intimacy, that provides a tangible and tactile experience.
